Hunger Van

• The ICCP Hunger Van is currently a scout-led project, with the aim to mentor the scouts in planning, shopping for, preparing, packaging and delivering a bi-monthly meal and toiletries for the nation’s largest homeless shelter, Federal City Shelter, in Washington, DC. This program is currently a Scout initiative, however, it is open for participation to all, based on capacity.
• The program began in April 2014 when the ICCP Center on River Road opened. It continued until it was re-launched on October 15, 2016, with 100% funding support coming from local grocers and retailers:  Giant Foods, Safeway, Harris Teeter, Costco and WalgreensThe program also receives additional funding from mosque donations, when needed.image1-3.
• ICCP Hunger Van packs 100 meals and serves 100 homeless individuals every other month. The program will continue with this number unless there is a significant demand as well as supply to meet that demand, insha’Allah.
• The scouts aim to continue the program on the 3rd Saturday of alternating months, insha’Allah. This is a way for our youth to actively engage in community service per the Sunnah and earn SSL hours as well.
